Dr Kerri Thomas: Court Reports
Kerri is experienced in conducting psychological assessments, pre-sentence reports, medico-legal reports, and family court reports. Psychological assessments use a combination of techniques to help arrive at some hypotheses about a person and their behavior, personality and capabilities. These assessments involve a clinician conducting an initial assessment to obtain all relevant background information and identify critical and relevant factors to provide clear scientifically-based conclusions with practical recommendations. For the process to be as smooth as possible, Kerri requires all key documents such as court documents and any previous assessments be provided before the initial meeting.
Kerri is also skilled in conducting family assessments and providing comprehensive family court reports and parenting recommendations. These reports involve a comprehensive assessment of the family unit to determine and advise what is in the child’s best interests. These assessments are conducted through clinical interviews with parents, the child/children, any other relevant parties (e.g. child safety officer and/or treatment providers), and behavioural observations (parent-child interaction). This assessment and report will include details regarding family relationships and attachment with caregivers and siblings, strengths and weakness, the co-parental relationship, and parenting capacity of each individual parent.
The assessment will then be compiled into a detail report which is then used in court matters like child custody evaluations in the Family Court of Australia.
